SO WHAT DO YOU GO BY?
Well first off, yes, Chaz is my birth name. Professionally, I use my full name. A lot of my friends call me Chizzie, though. It's just a nickname that I picked up in elementary school, so we can go with that, too haha
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born and raised in Centreville, VA. It's in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia about 30 minutes from D.C
WHEN AND HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THEATRE?
The first musical I ever did was Guys & Dolls, and that was in the summer of 2010. I'd always wanted to perform, but I didn't exactly have an outlet in my life. After Guys & Dolls, I started dancing and then well... I guess you can kinda see where that took me haha
WHERE DID YOU GO TO COLLEGE?
I attended East Carolina University! I started out as a Business major, and for that I will always be thankful. I couldn't stick with it though haha so then auditioned for Dance Performance, Professional Acting, and Musical Theatre. I ended up being able to take dance major courses and the Meisner acting technique courses while completing my musical theatre degree. Rest in Peace, John Shearin.
I have a rather large collection of vinyl records. A lot of people don't see the point in it, but honestly I've always been really into popular music and my collection very much feels like an extension of me as a person. My taste in music has completely shaped who I am as a performer.
It's a tie between West Side Story and Miss Saigon. They're both such smart musicals. Something about the choreo in West Side always gets me. And Miss Saigon... Kim... enough said. BUT ALSO DREAMGIRLS. In the Heights is veery important to me. The music, the story, the reality, the LIFE it brings to the stage is magic. AND I'd be remiss if I didn't mention 42nd Street. I'm a sucker for classic musical theatre and an underdog story.
I was beyond blessed to play Nabo in Las Meninas, a straight play by Lynn Nottage. Musically, would have to be Mr. Tambo in The Scottsboro Boys.
A MOVIE THAT SHOULD BE A STAGE MUSICAL?
Honey. Don't @ me.
IF YOU WEREN'T AN ACTOR WHAT WOULD YOU BE?
A Power Ranger. Or an head of A&R at a record label.
A QUOTE TO LIVE BY?
"I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself."
